How does LinkedIn show link previews?
When you share a URL on LinkedIn, it fetches the page's Open Graph meta tags to build a rich preview. LinkedIn reads og:title, og:description, og:image, and og:url to create a clickable card with an image, headline, and snippet. Without these tags, your link appears as a plain text URL — far less engaging.
What size should LinkedIn preview images be?
LinkedIn recommends images of 1200×627 pixels (1.91:1 ratio) for link previews. Images smaller than 200×200px won't display as large previews — LinkedIn will show them as tiny thumbnails instead. For best results, use HTTPS URLs and include og:image:width and og:image:height tags so LinkedIn doesn't need to fetch the image to determine its size. OGMagic generates images at exactly 1200×630px — the perfect size.
Why isn't my LinkedIn preview showing?
Common reasons: missing og:image tag, image too small (<200×200px), relative URL instead of absolute, or LinkedIn's cache is stale. To force a refresh, use LinkedIn's Post Inspector to re-scrape your page. Use our tool above to diagnose the specific issue.
How to clear LinkedIn's link cache
LinkedIn aggressively caches link previews. If you've updated your og:image or og:title but LinkedIn still shows the old version, visit linkedin.com/post-inspector, paste your URL, and click "Inspect". This forces LinkedIn to re-fetch your meta tags. Changes usually take effect within a few minutes.
LinkedIn vs Twitter vs Facebook previews
All three platforms read Open Graph tags, but with different quirks. LinkedIn relies entirely on og: tags (no LinkedIn-specific meta tags). Twitter uses its own twitter: tags with OG fallbacks. Facebook uses OG tags plus its own debugging tools. The good news: if you get your og:title, og:description, and og:image right, all platforms will show a good preview. Check all platforms with our OG Checker and Twitter Card Validator.
